James Cottingham and Jonny Adam will start from pole position for the Intelligent Money British GT Championship race at Brands Hatch tomorrow (Sunday). The duo topped the aggregate timesheets during the split qualifying session on the Grand Prix circuit at the wheel of their Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo this afternoon.
Cottingham laid the foundation for the 2Seas Motorsport entry’s success with a dominant showing in the initial 10-minute session for Am classified GT3 drivers. In hot, sunny conditions, Cottingham lapped the Kent circuit’s famous longer layout just over half a second faster than his rivals to take the top spot.
Adam backed up Cottingham’s performance in the Pro session by lapping competitively enough to secure pole for the championship leading pairing. Adam’s best lap wasn’t the fastest of the session, but it was enough to complete the job.
Darren Leung and Dan Harper will start the race alongside the Mercedes-AMG on the front row in their Century Motorsport BMW. Neither driver topped their respective segment of qualifying, but their combined efforts were strong enough to secure second on the grid. Shaun Balfe and Sandy Mitchell’s Lamborghini Huracan will start third after the duo completed a strong day on circuit which saw them run towards the front in every session.
Ross Gunn was fastest in the Pro part of GT3 qualifying onboard the Beechdean Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage. That performance allied with that of Am racer Andrew Howard was enough to secure fourth on the grid, with the Mercedes-AMG of reigning champion Ian Loggie and co-driver Jules Gounon completing the top-five.
In the GT4 class, Josh Rowledge and Aston Millar were fastest to secure class pole on aggregate timings. They will share the front row with the Ford Mustang of Will Moore and Matt Nicholl-Jones for tomorrow’s two-hour showpiece.
