The new Tatuus MSV GB4-025 car made its first public testing appearance at Silverstone last week, allowing teams and drivers to get a close-up look at the machine which will race in the GB4 Championship from next year.

With enhanced safety upgrades, aerodynamic refinements and a normally-aspirated two-litre, four-cylinder Mountune engine, the new car has received plenty of positive feedback already from the championship’s teams.

KMR Sport Team Principal Kevin Mills, who has propelled his squad to multiple titles, and leads the team’s standings this year, remarked that the new car is a clear step forward: “We watched it run on track on Friday, and it looks like a big improvement. It looked good, it turned well, it looked like it had good traction and it’s a definite step forwards from what we’re using now as a formula to teach young drivers how to drive.”

Mills also believes that the new engine package and safety upgrades will give the series additional appeal: “It’s an advantage not to have a turbo engine, a naturally aspirated engine is more usable and more driver friendly for this level of racing. Obviously the improved safety with the halo is another step forward and closer to the current GB3 car, so everything is a step in the right direction really, and I hope to see big grids of junior drivers racing next year.”

Elite Motorsport has been an ever-present in the series since the category’s inception in 2022, with Team Owner Eddie Ives confirming that the team will convert their current GB3 cars into GB4 specification at the end of the season: “We were really pleased to see the final version of the car on Friday. Obviously the car is pretty similar to GB3 but with some fine tuning mods to the rear diffuser and the aero and things like that. But my initial impressions are that we’re really happy with it, it’s going to be a really good F4-level platform for next year onwards and we’re looking forward to converting our cars to it.”

Fortec Motorsports won the inaugural drivers’ title with Nikolas Taylor, and leads the way with Linus Granfors in 2024. The team’s owner Richard Dutton reckons the introduction of the new car will aid the championship’s stature in attracting young drivers: “The new car looks great, it’s a well-adapted version of the GB3 car, so it has a good base to work from as we know how effective that car is. So it should be a good car, it’s nice to have the halo and the safety improvements, so it’s a big step in the right direction for the championship.”

Fox Motorsport’s first venture into single-seaters came with GB4, and Team Principal Paul McNeilly has already committed to running two cars in the series next year, and highlights the safety upgrades and serviceability as key improvements: “It’s great to have the GB3 car detuned down to become a GB4 car, and I think the halo is really important for 2025. We all know that the GB3 has been such a mega car, so to have that handed down to GB4 teams in slightly detuned form is a good thing. There won’t be too much stress on the engine so we’re really looking forward to getting hold of the cars and start testing as soon as possible.”

The new car will continue its testing programme in the coming weeks.
