A stellar line-up has been revealed for a special celebration of British Racing Motors (BRM) which will take place at this year’s Oulton Park Gold Cup on 25-27 July. A wide range of BRM race cars from the ‘50s through to the ‘70s alongside key figures from the team’s history will join the festivities at the Cheshire circuit.

Headline cars include BRM P578 chassis #1, popularly known as ‘Old Faithful’, the car raced by Graham Hill to the 1962 Formula 1 World Championship. Examples of the early ‘50s machines carrying BRM’s famed V16 engine will be on hand too, along with a selection of other Grand Prix and sports cars from which span BRM’s time as a race winning manufacturer.

These cars will all be available for visitors to the Gold Cup to see in a special display paddock throughout the whole weekend, with many taking to the circuit for a special demonstration run on the Saturday – the main day on which the BRM celebrations are focused.

Special guests expected to attend include no fewer than four drivers from the marque’s Grand Prix past:

Richard Attwood – raced for BRM initially in 1964 before joining the team for a longer run of races in 1968 at the wheel of a P126 with a V8 engine. His best Grand Prix result came at the wheel of a BRM that year, when he finished second by just over two seconds to Graham Hill in Monaco.

Howden Ganley – raced BRM cars in Grands Prix in 1971 and 1972, scoring points both seasons. Whilst he didn’t reach the F1 podium in a championship Grand Prix, Ganley did finish second to John Surtees in the 1971 Oulton Park Gold Cup, a race run across two aggregate heats.

Jackie Oliver – a regular BRM driver in Grand Prix racing, contesting the majority of World Championship Grands Prix in 1969 and ’70 before making a further one-off appearance with the team at Brands Hatch in 1972. He also achieved a podium at the Gold Cup for BRM in 1970.

Mike Wilds – came to BRM relatively late in the team’s time in Grand Prix racing, contesting the opening rounds of the 1975 season for the team which was known at this point as Stanley BRM.

Tony Southgate – legendary F1 car engineer Tony Southgate joined BRM as its chief designer in the late 1969. Southgate oversaw the team’s competitive start to the ‘70s with star drivers Pedro Rodriguez and Jo Siffert and penned the P180 which claimed BRM’s final victory in 1972.
