Mexican driver Patricio Gonzalez will join the GB3 Championship for the remainder of the 2025 season, as he joins VRD Racing for his first taste of European competition.

The 16-year-old, brother of Rodrigo Gonzalez, who will also be racing in the series at the British Grand Prix venue, has experience of single-seater racing in the USA.

His first season of single-seater racing came in the 2024 USF Juniors category, where he took a best finish of sixth at Portland and a total of five top-10 finishes. He also scored four top-sixes in the YACademy Winter Series races at Sebring Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway.

His 2025 campaign has featured a return to the YACAdemy Winter Series, finishing eighth overall with four points-scoring finishes from the six races, with a top result of fourth. He’s then moved up to the USF2000 category, and has completed five races across events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indianapolis Raceway Park and Road America, with a best result of ninth.

In addition, he currently sits ninth in the USF Juniors standings, with a highlight being fourth place at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Having only started competitive karting in 2022, his move to GB3 continues Patricio’s rapid rise up the ranks. He joins race-winner Hugo Schwarze and the returning Enzo Tarnvanichkul at the American squad, which expands to a full three-car line-up for the remainder of the campaign, including further events at Brands Hatch, Donington Park and Monza.

Patricio Gonzalez said: “I’m really excited to be joining VRD Racing and to make my European racing debut in the GB3 Championship. This is a big step in my career and an amazing opportunity to keep growing as a driver. I’ve learned a lot racing in the U.S. over the past couple of years, and now I’m ready to take on the challenge of faster cars and legendary circuits. I’m very grateful to the team for believing in me, and I’m ready to give it everything and keep learning every weekend.”

VRD Racing Team Principal Dan Mitchell said: “Patricio is a great signing for us in GB3, he’s just the kind of driver we enjoy working with, one with a lot of potential and some great results behind him already. It’s a big jump considering his experience, and the combination of a much quicker car and a first step into European racing will be a lot to take on board. So all we ask initially is for him to absorb the new environment and then start pushing closer to the front as the events go by. I can’t wait to see how he gets on in the second half of the season, and we’re delighted to be expanding to a full three-car line-up too.”
