Hitech TGR's Keanu Al Azhari and Rodin Motorsport's Alex Ninovic claimed pole positions in GB3 qualifying at the Hungaroring on Saturday morning.
Al Azhari secured his first ever GB3 pole in Q1, registering a 1m37.460s in the first 15-minute segment, and will start race one from the front of the grid.
Ninovic then posted a 1m37.445 halfway through Q2 to claim his third pole of the season, putting him at the front for race two. The Australian's time was over 2.1 seconds quicker than last year's pole time in the previous generation GB3 car.
Q1: Al Azhari shatters GB3 qualifying record
Al Azhari's time came on just his fourth lap in the 15-minute session, with track temperatures rising rapidly.
The Emirati's effort of 1m37.460s compares to last year's pole of 1m39.629s, and put him just over a tenth of a second clear of the field, headed by Rodin duo Gianmarco Pradel and Ninovic, the Australians separated by 0.110s. Pradel was one of the few drivers to improve their times in the second half of Q1.
Will Macintyre was just under two tenths further back in fourth, securing his and Elite Motorsport's best qualifying result of the season so far, and just 0.010s ahead of Hitech's Deagen Fairclough.
Xcel Motorsport's Patrick Heuzenroeder was 0.018s in arrears to take sixth ahead of JHR Developments' Noah Nisle, with the third Rodin of Abbi Pulling securing her best qualifying result since the season opener at Silverstone in eighth.
She was 0.024s clear of VRD's Zandvoort race winner Hugo Schwarze, who was the final driver within a second of Al Azhari's pole time. JHR's Kai Daryanani completed the Q1 top-10 for the race one grid.
Q2: Ninovic goes even quicker to secure race two pole
Like Al Azhari, Ninovic's pole-setting lap came on his fourth tour of the circuit, with his time of 1m37.445s being 0.015s quicker than the best posted in Q1.
The championship leader opted to spend the final minutes of the session in the pits, and had to wait nervously as Al Azhari completed a final quick lap, with the race one pole sitter ultimately missing out on a pole double by just 0.024s.
Having set the second quickest time in Q1, Pradel was bumped down to third by Al Azhari's late effort, but had a two tenth margin in hand over Lisle, who was fourth in Q2.
Despite missing the first quarter of the second session, Fairclough was still able to claim fifth place on the grid for race two, less than a tenth quicker than Macintyre who was sixth this time around.
Pulling moved up to seventh in Q2, missing out on the top-six by 0.043, and was ahead of Heuzenroeder, Schwarze in ninth again and Argenti with Prema's Reza Seewooruthun, who completed the top-10.
This time around, the top-11 drivers were covered by less than a second.
The first race of the weekend is due to commence at 17.20 local time (16.20 UK).
