Tom Ingram surged to pole position in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park with a dominant display in the Quick Six qualifying session this afternoon (Saturday).
At the wheel of his Team VERTU Hyundai, Ingram was the only driver to dip below the 1m24s barrier, producing a best time of 1m23.856s on the Island circuit. Nobody else was able to get close to that, with Chris Smiley leading the chasing back, the best part of half a second behind.
The remaining five places in the final Quick Six session were hard fought however, with Smiley’s Restart Racing Hyundai heading a group separated by less than two tenths of a second. Behind that, Dan Cammish edged out NAPA Racing UK teammate Ash Sutton to take third in the first of the Ford Focus STs, with the latter settling for fourth.
James Dorlin was the best Toyota qualifier, seizing fifth in his Corolla GR Sport, just ahead of Adam Morgan in another of the Team VERTU machines.
Tom Chilton, Josh Cook, Charles Rainford and Senna Proctor will complete the top-10 after narrowly missing the Quick Six cut during the knockout qualifying session. Further back, Jake Hill, Daniel Rowbottom and Gordon Shedden are amongst the established frontrunners who’ll be charging through the pack after being knocked out early in the session.
