Dan Cammish claimed this weekend’s Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship pole position after topping the times in the final Quick Six segment in qualifying this afternoon.
The NAPA Racing UK driver moved to the head of the timing screens late on with a time of 1m53.750s just before his teammate Ash Sutton brought the session to a halt after slowing on the Bentley Straight. The red flag was flown to allow the stricken Ford Focus ST to be retrieved, but nobody was able to match Cammish’s pace during a briefly restarted session thereafter.
Tom Ingram was the closest to Cammish but had to settle for second after being narrowly pipped by just 30 thousandths of a second. The Team Vertu Hyundai had briefly been quickest, but Cammish moved ahead just ahead of the stoppage.
Daniel Rowbottom will start third for Sunday’s opening race after setting the third fastest time, but there was a gap between him and the leaders on the 300 circuit, with his best time ultimately just over half a second off Cammish.
Mikey Doble was fourth in his Vauxhall Astra, just ahead of Adam Morgan in another of the Team Vertu Hyundais. Sutton will start sixth despite not setting a time as he reached the Quick Six portion of the session.
Further down the order, Jake Hill will be hoping to charge up the order in the races after being knocked out of qualifying early to line up 20th.
