Dan Cammish crossed the finish line first in the opening Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Snetterton this afternoon.
Cammish pulled into an early lead in his NAPA Racing UK Ford to lead from fellow front row starter Tom Ingram. The latter’s Team Vertu Hyundai attempted to pass Cammish around the outside during the opening corners but the leading driver held firm to remain ahead.
Behind that, Ash Sutton dramatically rose from sixth to third in another of the Ford Focus STs from where he was immediately able to place pressure on Ingram ahead. The leading trio began to break away as the race ensued, with Cammish always looking comfortable at the front.
Sutton remained close to Ingram throughout, sizing up a move before attempting a bold move at Agostini on the last lap of the race. The duo ran side by side with Ingram just holding the position before Sutton launched another attack through Bomb Hole and Coram.
This late charge wasn’t quite enough to see Sutton move through on Ingram, who crossed the line second and third. Cammish passed the chequered flag more than four seconds clear whilst the other two fought behind him.
Daniel Rowbottom finished fourth, despite initially losing ground from third on the grid. The NAPA Racing UK Ford passed Adam Morgan for fourth on the third lap and he drove home to claim the place, just ahead of Dan Lloyd who passed Morgan a few laps later.
Morgan’s ended up sixth ahead of another of the Team Vertu Hyundais in Tom Chilton’s hands. Chris Smiley, Mikey Doble and Daryl DeLeon rounded out the top-10.
There was drama for some big names further back, with Jake Hill suffering contact with Aron Taylor-Smith on the opening lap. The reigning champion had to dive for the pits, and was ultimately not classified despite returning to the track following repair work several laps down.
Gordon Shedden was another former champion to encounter misfortune after retiring following an impact from Max Hall.
