Record-breaking 29 car GB4 grid gears up for Silverstone

The GB4 Championship rises to new levels in 2026, with a record-breaking 29 drivers confirmed for this weekend’s season opener at Silverstone.

With such a colossal entry, there’s bound to be a racing star of the future amongst the line-up, which boasts representatives from 12 different nations battling against a dozen home-grown talents from the UK. Last year’s epic title scrap between eventual champion Ary Bansal, Isaac Phelps and Dan Guinchard went all the way down to the final laps, expect the 2026 action to be just as close.

Returnees Luke Hilton, Alex O’Grady and Ginetta Junior runner-up Fred Green have been the stand out contenders in pre-season testing, with each driver never ending a day of running outside of the top-five.

Hilton has made the switch to the new-look Nitrous Competitions ADM Racing team this year, and has topped four of the eight pre-season test days he’s completed. KMR’s O’Grady, a race winner at Oulton Park last year, should be firmly in the title mix for the multiple champions, and was seven tenths clear of the field at the most recent test at Brands Hatch.

Elite’s Fred Green has also been right up there as he switches to single-seaters. The nephew of DTM race-winner Jamie Green was quickest at Snetterton and Oulton Park in recent weeks.

Another to keep an eye on is Fortec’s Thomas Ingram Hill. At the venue where the squad claimed two race wins last year, the young Brit was unbeatable across the two days here a month ago, as he went quickest on both.

Swede Enzo Hallman, another Oulton Park GB4 race winner, makes the switch to front-runners Hillspeed for his second GB4 campaign and has been a firm top-six contender in pre-season. Fortec’s Polish karting recruit Franciszek ‘Franek’ Cegielski also looks set to shine based on his pre-season performances.

Donington Park race winner Dayton Coulthard, the son of BRDC President and 13-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard, should head Douglas Motorsport’s charge. Irishman Jason Smyth, who has happy memories of racing at Silverstone, joins him; he took a sensational Walter Hayes Trophy win here just a few months ago to add to his Formula Ford Festival triumph a week earlier. Fellow Irishman Conor Grant completes the blue team’s line-up.

Reigning champions Elite Motorsport also fields Venezuelan contender Emmilio Valentino Del Grosso alongside Israeli Matan Achituv, while Hillspeed, the team’s main challengers last year, has signed American duo Connor Willis and Demitri Nolan alongside Hallman.

The returning Josh McLean heads Pace Performance’s trio, with John O’Donnell back for more after making his GB4 debut at Donington Park in October, with Ginetta Junior graduate Torrin Byrne stepping up to single-seaters for the first time – he was a front-runner in the Ginetta Junior Winter Series held here a few months ago.

One of GB4’s unique selling points is a €50,000 career progression prize for the top female driver, and five girls feature on this year’s grid, with eyes on a potential F1 Academy seat in the future. KMR duo Lily Watkins and Holly Miall are series returnees, with Watkins in particular making huge strides up the order in pre-season.

Nitrous ADM’s American Caitlyn McDaniel is another coming back for more, while French contender Solenn Amrouche and American Jordyn Martin make their GB4 debuts with Arden and Fortec respectively.

Joining Amrouche at Arden are karting graduates Michael Koh, the series’ first Singaporean, and young Brit Charlie Myers.

Scorpio Motorsport makes a return to single-seater racing with Fiesta Junior front-runner Archie Davies and the grid’s second French resident Romuald Bocquet, who has F4 experience in Europe.

Fox Motorsport has a full three-car line-up, with Saudi Arabian karting champion Jasser Iskander, South African Enzo Rujugiro and Brit Archie Bullard (son of Premier League footballer Jimmy Bullard) filling its roster.

Finally, after a one-off appearance in 2024, Idola Motorsport is gearing up for a full-time GB4 campaign with karting talent Jamie Leverton. Continuing the football theme, the Stoke on Trent resident launched his season at the Bet365 Stadium back in January.

Each driver is at the wheel of the acclaimed Tatuus MSV GB4-25 car, which features a normally aspirated two litre Mountune engine, which allows for superb equality across the field.

Following this season’s opener, GB4 ventures to the country’s other top circuits, with the next round coming at Oulton Park in May before heading to Donington Park in June. A second visit to Silverstone kicks off the second half of the season before events at Snetterton Donington Park and Brands Hatch completes the campaign.

All GB4 races can be viewed live on the MSV TV YouTube channel, with full build-up and post-race analysis included. The open paddock policy also allows fans to meet the potential stars of the future!
