McLean storms to breakthrough GB4 victory in Oulton Park race three

Pace Performance's Josh McLean made two excellent starts in the final race of the weekend at Oulton Park, to claim victory in race three.

In a restarted contest, McLean made the best start from the front row on both occasions to pass Dayton Coulthard, and secured his maiden GB4 win in the process.

The initial race was red flagged after a crash on the first lap for Charlie Myers and John O'Donnell on the approach to Hilltop, with both drivers stepping clear of their cars.

At that start, McLean had moved past Coulthard around the outside of Old Hall on the first lap, but with barrier damage and cars requiring recovery, the red flags flew, and the remaining 27 cars were parked back up on the grid in their original positions.

With Coulthard handed another chance at pole, McLean simply repeated his move from the original start, and claimed the lead once more. This time he was able to keep it, and built a lead of three quarters of a second by the end of lap four.

Next time around though, and the gap was slashed down to just two tenths of a second as Coulthard drew closer. A lap later, and the lead stretched back out to over a second, as McLean solidified his position at the front. For Coulthard, attentions had to shift to his mirrors, with Elite's Emmilio Valentino Del Grosso charging him down, and suddenly there was a seven car train applying massive pressure behind the Scottish contender.

As McLean pulled clear to win by 1.368 seconds, Coulthard hung on to second, finishing just a quarter of a second clear of Del Grosso, who secured his second podium of the season.

Hillspeed's Connor Willis held on to fourth, missing out on a breakthrough GB4 podium by 0.253s, while Fortec's Thomas Ingram Hill climbed from eighth to fifth.

Willis' teammate Enzo Hallman completed one of his strongest events to date by going from 10th on the grid to sixth, ahead of Nitrous Competitions ADM Racing's Luke Hilton, who moved up from ninth to seventh, but was passed during Hallman's charge.

Pace Performance's Torrin Byrne was eighth, still in the train behind Coulthard, as was Fortec's Franciszek Cegielski, KMR Sport's race two winner Alex O'Grady, and Elite's championship leader Fred Green, who finished just outside the top-10, but maintained his championship lead heading to Donington Park. The eight cars behind Coulthard were covered by 3.7 seconds at the flag.

Regrettably, a technical problem in the TV compound meant the live feed for the race cut out during the second formation lap. We will work to publish footage of the race in the coming hours.
