Brands Hatch was treated to some special demonstration laps at the ZYN British Superbike Championship finale earlier today (Saturday), with Grand Prix legend Randy Mamola riding a commemorative Bennetts Suzuki superbike from 2016, sporting the iconic Heron Suzuki livery made famous by his former rival and circuit legend Barry Sheene.
With Brands Hatch celebrating it’s centenary year in 2026, Barry Sheene stands as one of the circuit’s greatest heroes, with the iconic rider’s career beginning at Brands Hatch in 1968 where he claimed his first race win a week after making his circuit racing debut at the Kent venue.
Sheene achieved his greatest success with the Heron Suzuki team, with the distinctive red and white colours of the team becoming synonymous with him as he claimed back-to-back 500cc Grand Prix titles in 1976 and 1977.
During their illustrious careers, Mamola and Sheene became fierce rivals on track and close friends off it, and the 13-time GP winner returned to Brands Hatch to pay tribute to a rider who’s legacy lives on today. The sight of the Heron Suzuki colours lapping the Grand Prix circuit was a fitting way to celebrate an iconic rider and an iconic venue in it’s centenary season.
