American-Australian single-seater squad TJ Speed Motorsports will make its first appearance in European competition for the GB3 Championship season finale at Barcelona on 7/8 November, and has confirmed German contender Arjen Kräling as the first of two drivers it will field at the event.
TJ Speed is a multi-championship-winning operation based in Indiana, fronted by Australian Tim Neff, a renowned engineer who has worked alongside drivers including Jacques Villeneuve, Mark Blundell and James Hinchcliffe through his career, which has encompassed IndyCar, Indy Lights and Indy NXT. Current IndyCar stars Kyffin Simpson and Conor Daly are among those to have also benefited from his experience.
Following its formation in 2021, the team’s landmark achievements include back-to-back title successes in Formula Regional Americas, multiple race wins in USF Pro 2000 and a race-winning campaign in the most recent Formula Regional Oceania Trophy series at the start of the year, running in conjunction with HMD Motorsports.
With a proven track record in the USA, TJ Speed now expands into European competition for the first time, with the Barcelona appearance a precursor to a potential full-time effort in 2027.
16-year-old Kräling meanwhile will make his own GB3 debut with the team, after a half and one full season of experience at F4 level. The Winterberg-born driver has raced in the Italian F4 and E4 Championships this year, and was also a race winner in the Spanish-based Formula Winter Series in February. Kräling is also a member of Motorsport Team Germany and is supported as a promising young racing talent by the ADAC Stiftung Sport, the ADAC's foundation dedicated to developing talented young athletes.
Having also competed in British F4 and GB4 previously, the step up to GB3 marks Kräling’s first moves into the level above F4. He will drive alongside a soon to be named teammate, who will also make the step up from F4-level competition.
TJ Speed Team Principal Tim Neff: “This is an intriguing opportunity for us to make an initial venture into European racing for the first time. We’ve heard great things about GB3 over the past few years, and we can see the series, car and technical package is exceptional.
"We’re excited to get going in Barcelona, and delighted to confirm Arjen as our first driver, extending an agreement with him that also includes racing in Oceania in a few weeks time. This of course means we will have teams operating in America, Europe and Australia, which I’m fairly sure hasn’t been done for quite a while!”
Arjen Kräling: “I’m incredibly excited to make my GB3 debut in Barcelona! After a half and one full season in Formula 4, this opportunity feels like a real reward for all the hard work we’ve put in. It hasn’t always been an easy journey, and things haven’t always gone the way I hoped, but I’ve learned a lot from those experiences. Racing in GB3 is a big step forward for me, and I’m really grateful to TJ Speed Motorsports for giving me this opportunity. I know there’s a lot to learn, but I’ll give it everything I’ve got and try to make the most of this experience.”
