Rich Energy BTC Racing's Josh Cook was the fastest driver in the opening Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship free practice session at Oulton Park this morning (Saturday).
The current championship leader, with four wins to his name so far this year, set his best lap of 1m25.882s just 15 minutes into the session to put his Honda Civic Type-R a quarter of a second clear of the rest of the field, headed by the EXCELR8 Hyundai of Tom Ingram.
Adam Morgan was third quickest in his BMW 330e M Sport machine, 0.060s behind Ingram and 0.053s ahead of the Team Dynamics Honda of Gordon Shedden.
Reigning champion Ash Sutton was fifth fastest in his NAPA Racing Ford Focus, half a tenth clear of Toyota's Ricky Collard, who has won multiple times at the Cheshire circuit in his junior single-seater career.
Sutton's teammate Dan Cammish posted the seventh quickest time, just within half a second of the outright pace, and 0.029s ahead of the next Hyundai of Dan Lloyd.
Rory Butcher, a winner at the circuit last year for Toyota was ninth, with Team HARD's Bobby Thompson completing the top-10 in his Cupra Leon, having topped the times early on.
The top-19 drivers were covered by exactly one second, with the second BTCC free practice session of the day due to commence at 12.25.
